THE STATE OF BEING
Everything that exits exists in a state of being. This state illustrates its underlying conditions and circumstances.
Everything exists in a fixed or transient state that is conjoined, ephemeral or in flux.
The state of something responds and interacts with its surrounding environment, molding a singular emotional
reaction that is contextual to the conditions it finds itself in. By closely examining these states of mind, I became interested in exploring how to depict states of being; how to identify their differentiating attributes; and how to portray its individual and associative emotion. If you are aware of the state of mind you are in, you realize your ability to decrease or increase its severity. All states exist in degrees, and your consciousness of them allows you a measure of control. This series attempts to separate and tackle each “state of Being” in isolation of other possible accompanying states, in an endeavour to identify a visual impression for each “State of Being”. Throughout this experience, i'm trying to reach a better understating of the essences of “State of Being” through a medley of artworks using multiple media.
The exhibition begins with a script, for language is the first deployable tool when trying to describe beings. And as medium, through which, present can be made continuous, as a sign of synchronisation to highlight its correlation with the “State of Being”. The exhibition finishes with an interactive piece that aims at understanding the “State of Being” through observing the reactions of the participants in this experiment.
In the beginning of the exhibition, language is being highlighted, as a medium that illuminates visuals, while light emphasizes the pictures and motions related to the “State of Being”.
Video is considered a medium that relies on light and motion which enable us to record the “State of Being” and keep it going. This series asks several questions about the “State of Being” using language, light, motion and sound, as they are utilized in order to realize the “State of Being”, visually, as well as the feelings associated with it. This is an attempt to dismantle the overall holistic “State of Being” in order to identify the original “State of Being” in its simplest forms, without being cluttered by other states.
